  • With partners like Heathrow Airport, Rotterdam The Hague Airport and Stuttgart Airport already on board, SkyNRG and CHOOOSE are launching a new carbon emission reduction solution called “Fly on SAF”.
  • The solution enables airlines and travel companies to seamlessly integrate the offering of climate solutions, such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), into their customer experience.

“'Fly on SAF' is the result of a successful partnership that shows how collaboration can push innovation forward. Our goal is to change the way the world flies and make climate action easy and available for everyone. We need to work together within the travel industry to raise awareness and adoption of more sustainable ways to travel, and we, therefore, invite the industry to join the cause and help to increase a positive, collective impact,” says Theye Veen, Managing Director at SkyNRG.

Travelers booking a ticket with an organization offering the solution can easily address the estimated carbon emissions from their flight. This enables the traveler to fly in a more eco-conscious way by supporting SAF, which is made from raw materials, such as used cooking oil and agricultural waste.

Aiming to address climate change, Fly on SAF provides everything airlines, airports, online travel agents, travel management companies and event organizers need to incorporate the support of SAF into the customer experience. Enterprise-grade APIs are used to power carbon emissions estimates and access to climate solutions options at any digital checkout. It also includes a logged-in experience to track, report on, and analyze solution performance across all integrated channels.

“People don’t want to be bothered with a tedious purchasing process, so we needed to develop a process where people can take action on their emissions with just a few clicks, which is exactly what we did. The solution can be embedded on a partner’s website or integrated into the customer’s digital checkout process, and can be used for any airline and route, at any moment in time. The only input needed from the traveler is the flight itinerary”, says Toina Ljøstad, Head of Products at CHOOOSE.

The traveler can pick any combination of climate solutions, which includes SAF, they want to support to help address the estimated carbon emissions associated with their travel, and the solution will take care of the rest. If a traveler wants to take action directly, instead of going through a partner’s website, they can do so by visiting flyonsaf.com.

Fly on SAF airport partners include Rotterdam The Hague Airport, Stuttgart Airport, and Heathrow Airport, while the first event partners include Eurosonic Festival and DGTL Festival.

“Besides reducing our performing artist’s CO2 emissions, DGTL will enable its 50,000 festival fans to reduce their travel footprint to and from the festival by using Fly on SAF. The calculator has been integrated on our website in our customized branding and allows our fans to take responsibility for their carbon footprint”, says Mitchell van Dooijeweerd, Sustainability Manager at DGTL.

The Fly on SAF solution is available for individuals and companies worldwide.

Key facts about SAF:

  • SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) is made from raw materials, like used cooking oil and agricultural waste.
  • Using SAF can reduce lifecycle emissions from flying by 80%, compared to traditional jet fuel.
  • Particle and sulphur pollution can be reduced by 90% and 100% respectively, which can improve air quality.
  • SAF can decrease fuel use by up to 3%, and thereby extend flight range, due to an improved fuel efficiency compared to fossil jet fuel.

About SkyNRG:

As a pioneer and global leader in Sustainable Aviation Fuel, SkyNRG scales up SAF demand and supply globally. Having supplied over 30 airlines on all continents, it is SkyNRG’s mission to make SAF the new global standard, driven by sustainable practices throughout the supply chain. To ensure SkyNRG makes the right decisions regarding the sustainability of its operations, projects and products, SkyNRG is structurally advised by an independent Sustainability Board, which includes representatives from WWF International, the European Climate Foundation, Solidaridad Network and the University of Groningen. Also, SkyNRG’s operations are certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB), the highest possible certification standard for sustainable fuels. Learn more at: www.skynrg.com
