NewsAnna of the North among the vanguard of artists verified by the United Nations and CHOOOSE for her US-tour.
While the hits from her latest album Dream Girl strikes blows through venues from Boston to San Francisco, the Oslo-based singer-songwriter Anna of the North has made a pledge for the planet.
Teaming up with CHOOOSE, Anna Lotterud has measured and reduced the carbon footprint of her tour by implementing a Green Touring Checklist. She will also address the tour’s unavoidable emissions by offsetting twice the amount of its initial carbon footprint.
Come to the decision, Anna made the following statement for her choice:
“The environment has always been important to me, and even though it is virtually impossible to live a 100% sustainable life in the society we have today, I do try to do what I can. If everyone contributes their part, I think we can change the world.”
Emissions turned into biogas energy in Thailand
Anna handpicked her project, choosing a CO2-reducing methane capture project replacing fossil with renewable energy in Thailand and supporting four of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the process. The Bangna Biogas Project replaces old starch treatment systems with a modern Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) reactor system, enabling the local starch factory to turn its emissions from wastewater into biogas energy.
“We’re so happy to be teaming up with Anna for her tour, and even better knowing that the contribution supports sustainable development and carbon reduction in Thailand. The need for energy is so high, and planet earth cannot afford to cover that need with fossil energy production. That Anna uses her platform to showcase how to reduce own greenhouse gases and offset the unavoidable emissions to achieve meaningful change is a great example of how combining culture and climate really can make a difference.» Says CEO and CHOOOSE-founder Andreas Slettvoll.
New strong album
After the strong electro-pop debut, Lovers, created a loyal fan base for the performer, her star qualities really came into their own when American rapper and record producer Tyler, The Creator, contacted her for a collaboration on his Grammy-nominated album Flower Boy. When the powerhouse remix of her first single Sway by Chainsmokers became a global hit, it only reaffirmed her position as a shooting-star on the arctic pop-sky. On this album, Anna has broken away from her musical partnerships to forge her own sound entirely. The easy-going, creative album Dream Girl got a warm welcome, with all of her five singles performing well.

More hot shows for a cooler climate
As she continues her relentless touring across the US, the Norwegian singer-songwriter strives to maintain her on-tour measures to reduce emissions. This includes using flights for oversea-travels only and bus transportation wherever possible, as well as other measures like minimizing paper-use, strive to use sustainable hotels, minimize the distance between hotel and venue, choose green raider choices like vegetarian meals and reusable cutlery, reusable bottles.

Second-hand-clothing as fan merchandise
Additionally, Anna has her own ecoistic twist when it comes to fan merch. Teaming up with Norwegian Second-hand pioneers Tise, Anna created a specialized fan merchandise vintage collection made up of selected second-hand-clothing. Curating the collection herself, Anna blends laid-back streetwear with a more upscale preppy look, by mixing classic vintage pieces with selected items from Lacoste and Tommy Hilfinger. The collab also made a pop-up shop in Oslo prior to her concert in Oslo, encouraging fans to bring their favorite garments and get it tagged with Anna's logo.

Anna said in a statement:
“I've always been very fond of vintage and second hand. It is nice to be able to front a more environmentally friendly way to wear and shop clothes. By giving the clothes a new life, you get unique outfits and combos.”
