Bologna Airport cooperates with CHOOOSE to increase awareness on the issue of climate change and to intervene with concrete actions.

Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport has committed to paying careful attention to all aspects of sustainability, from environmental to respect for ethical and social principles, considering the important role for the Airport of Bologna as a functional pole on the territory.

Now Bologna Airport introduces a carbon offsetting solution available through a dedicated climate landing page, enabling passengers to calculate and offset their air travels carbon footprint easily. The climate solution is developed in partnership with climate and technology company CHOOOSE.

"As Bologna Airport - says CEO Nazareno Ventola - we always pursued a policy of sustainable development increasingly synergic with our business strategy, working on initiatives capable of reducing our impact on the environment. Commercial aviation contributes about 2% to global carbon emissions, even less than many other productive sectors, but nevertheless it is important for us to do our utmost to create a future in which emissions are reduced and offset. In 2019, together with 200 other European airports, we signed the "Net Zero 2050" agreement to become a "zero impact" airport. As first airport in Italy, we launch this CO2 compensation project to increase the awareness of our passengers on the issues of climate change and to offer them a concrete action, in line with others already implemented by our company"

It is now effortlessly accessible for anyone to address the carbon footprint of a trip. With simple steps, travellers can ensure that their flight's carbon emissions are being counted for and reduced by supporting some of the best climate projects around the world. The carbon offset contribution directly supports CO2-reducing climate projects verified by the most comprehensive and stringent international standard.

The climate program enables travellers to support renewable energy projects, verified by the Gold Standard. These projects help to address climate change by reducing global carbon emissions and supports multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Bologna Airport is one of the busiest airports in Italy, serving 114 destinations with 8.5 million passengers in 2018. A total of 44 airlines fly from Bologna Airport to 114 destinations, including some of the largest airlines in Europe.

“Research shows that a majority of travellers would now pay a premium to offset their carbon footprint when flying. We’re proud to partner with Bologna Airport who’s taking climate leadership by making climate action available for all its passengers, creating a more responsible future of travel. Together, we are building travel back better”, says CEO and CHOOOSE founder Andreas Slettvoll.

Bologna Airport and CHOOOSE's offset calculator is available across all markets. In addition, all travellers who compensate for their flight will receive a certificate recognizing that the journey's carbon emissions have been accounted for.
