Flexport.org introduces SAF into its air freight carbon program
Flexport, a leading tech-driven logistics platform, has partnered with Chooose to accelerate the decarbonization of air freight emissions. This new program allows customers to support the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in air transport. SAF, which typically has lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions that are one-fifth of those from conventional jet fuels, will play a pivotal role in decarbonizing aviation in the coming years.
Seamless integration with Chooose technology
This service integrates Chooose technology directly into the Flexport platform, providing a seamless user experience. Using a book and claim chain of custody model, clients can purchase certificates to reduce their scope 3 emissions and ensure the use of low-carbon SAF in air freight transport. This service is available to any client with air shipment emissions, regardless of trade lane or geography, ensuring emissions reductions are felt across the value chain.
Comprehensive sustainability dashboard
All Flexport customers can access the SAF offering through the Sustainability Dashboard. This dashboard also includes existing services for emissions estimates, reporting, and purchasing carbon credits or marine biofuels credits. With the new SAF service, Flexport users can easily track SAF purchases and monitor their cumulative impact over time.
“Sustainable Aviation Fuels are integral to decarbonizing the freight sector. Flexport’s partnership with Chooose will allow our customers to seamlessly address their airfreight emissions in the Flexport platform. We are an early supporter of Chooose, and Flexport is proud to announce this collaboration and commitment to reducing transportation emissions across our value chain,” says Neel Jones Shah, SVP of Air Strategy & Carrier Development.
“Chooose is proud to power Flexport and its customers in addressing air freight carbon emissions. By offering a seamless emission calculation and purchase experience directly in their platform, Flexport is facilitating the much-needed acceleration of sustainable aviation fuel,” said Andreas Slettvoll, CEO at Chooose.
“We developed the Chooose API to put impactful climate solutions in the hands of our partners and their customers. SAF has lower net lifecycle carbon emissions than fossil-based jet fuels, it is sustainably produced without depleting natural resources, and it’s compatible with existing aircraft engines, all of which means it has the potential to meaningfully reduce the carbon intensity of flying,” adds Slettvoll.
Commitment to more sustainable supply chains
Flexport aims to reduce its environmental impact within the transportation value chain by developing services that make sustainable options more accessible. A sustainable supply chain is a key part of Flexport’s long-term strategy, and the partnership with Chooose underscores its commitment to delivering tech-driven climate programs for its customers.
