British Airways is introducing an upgraded climate software solution for individual and corporate customers, helping them better understand, estimate, and take climate action.

Commitment to net zero by 2050

The airline aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050, using a clear roadmap of solutions:

  • Fuel-efficient aircraft: Flying more fuel-efficient planes.
  • Climate projects: Supporting certified climate projects aimed at reducing or removing carbon on UK domestic flights.
  • Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF): Investing in SAF development and scaling.
  • New technologies: Exploring zero emissions hydrogen-powered aircraft and carbon capture technology.
  • Encouraging climate action: Empowering customers to make more sustainable travel choices.

Empowering customers with CO2llaborate

British Airways is empowering its customers to make more sustainable travel choices through the new CO2llaborate program, in partnership with Chooose.

Two online platforms

The airline is launching two online platforms to allow customers to access their flight’s carbon emissions estimates and make more environmentally conscious decisions. CO2llaborate enhances Birtish Airways’ existing carbon tool with more precise emissions estimates and a new adjustable slider to control contributions towards SAF versus climate projects.

Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)

The SAF available on the CO2llaborate platform is sourced from the Phillips 66 plant in Humberside, using cooking oil waste. SAF can provide lifecycle emissions reductions of up to 80% compared to traditional fossil-based jet fuel. It is delivered to British Airways via existing pipeline infrastructure feeding directly into London Heathrow.

Travelers can access carbon emissions estimates of their flights and opt in to support climate solutions such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Accessing the CO2llaborate platform

Individual customers can access CO2llaborate platform before, during, or after their flight. The platform is accessible from their seat via the airline’s free Wi-Fi portal or at any time by visiting ba.com. Customers can estimate their flight’s carbon emissions and choose to support SAF or high-quality carbon projects, such as a rainforest protection project in the Democratic Republic of Congo, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals. The adjustable slider feature allows customers to decide the amount of contributions they’d like to make, in line with their estimated emissions.

British Airways's corporate customers can join the CO2LLABORATE program to monitor and track their carbon emissions.

Corporate climate program

For the first time, British Airways is offering a dedicated climate program for corporate customers. The CO2llaborate platform provides a dashboard to track CO2 emissions from business travel, with monthly reports and the ability to select specific climate solutions, from SAF contributions to supporting nature-based projects. This feature enables companies to manage and report on their climate impact over time.

The partnership between British Airways and Chooose offers travelers worldwide insight into their flight-related carbon emissions and supports more carbon-informed travel decisions.
