Today, American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT), the world’s leading B2B travel platform, announced a partnership with Chooose. This collaboration aims to integrate carbon emissions estimates across Amex GBT’s travel booking and reporting tools, enhancing their sustainability solutions and laying the foundation for future carbon programs.

Amex GBT now displays estimated carbon emissions in its online booking tool, Neo, to help business travelers make more informed, sustainable decisions. This integration replaces Neo’s current calculation methods with seamless emissions estimates automated through Chooose software.

Empowering travel managers and travelers with consistent carbon emissions data

Travel managers will benefit from the new solution by selecting their preferred calculation methodology, which can be consistently applied across online booking, mobile apps, and itinerary solutions. Amex GBT’s reporting tools will allow travel managers to use the Chooose-powered emissions estimates for trips booked since 2019, enabling them to track, analyze, and manage their scope 3.6 emissions efficiently.

Travelers can view the estimated emissions of their flights in search results, itineraries, and in the Amex GBT Mobile app for past and future trips — all powered by Chooose.

With this integration, travelers will see consistent trip emissions estimates in search results, itineraries, and the Amex GBT Mobile app for both past and future trips. This visibility helps travelers understand the environmental impact of their journeys and encourages more environmentally-conscious booking choices.

Customizable emissions estimates

Chooose provides Amex GBT with access to industry-accepted air emissions methodologies, including those from ICAO, UK BEIS, US EPA, and France ADEME. The integration also includes additional data sources like IATA CO2 Connect, based on IATA Recommended Practice RP 1726.

Depending on selected methodology, the emissions estimations build on data inputs including distance, fuel burn, occupancy, cabin class, and belly cargo for higher accuracy of estimated emissions. Furthermore, customers can select preferences on radiative forcing and whether or not to include upstream emissions. Emissions data for rail, car, and hotel segments will follow — with more methodologies and features being added over time.

Expanding low-carbon solutions with Amex GBT

This partnership marks a significant step in developing sustainability offerings within the Amex GBT product portfolio. As part of the expanded portfolio and partnership with Chooose, Amex GBT clients also have options to support carefully vetted, certified carbon projects by purchasing carbon credits — directly integrated into their booking and reporting tools. Chooose data will also support sustainable meetings and events (M&E) solutions, ensuring reliable data across all Amex GBT services. Egencia will also incorporate Chooose-powered emissions estimates into its business travel platform and reporting tools.

“We are very happy to support AmexGBT — and the millions of travelers they serve — in creating an industry-leading set of tools to track, understand, and address the carbon footprint associated with business travel. Together, we are taking an end-to-end approach with a deep focus on delivering calculation methodologies in line with the latest industry guidance and seamless access to both immediately available and frontier climate solutions.”
